YOUR Milwaukee Food Council

A Strategic Path that puts Workers, Consumers, and those on the Frontlines of our Food System in the Drivers Seat.

To inspire the realization of our interconnected struggles, that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”, and that wisdom is not synonymous with status - the MFC commits to redistribute and return power; not only to farmowners, but immigrant farmworkers; not only chefs, but dishwashers; not only school administrators, but so too, to students. The Milwaukee Food Council (MFC) is a member‐based movement‐building organization that organizes its members into coalitions that together democratically advance a food system free from the exploitation of people and the environment, while simultaneously ensuring adequate and equitable access to healthy, quality food for all. We envision a Milwaukee where everyone has the food they need, and the working people and places that make that food possible are not only free from exploitation, but are afforded a dignified and fulfilling existence.

Milwaukee has made it’s vision for the Milwaukee Food Council clear. Thank you for all your support in drafting and adopting our new Strategic Plan!

Power to the People - A Democratic Coalition Structure that Builds Capacity and Makes Change

In light of our new strategic direction as organizer and facilitator of a truly democratic food movement in Milwaukee we have revamped our website to support this newly focused task. All are welcome and more importantly NEEDED in advancing a food movement and system that cares for everyone.

The direction and work of MFC is decided democratically by you in coalition with your peers, neighbors, colleagues, and friends!

On the website you will find the “Coalition” page; We convene folks from across the food system in the Milwaukee area INTO COALITION(s) that most align with their work, their lives, and their passions. Coalitions meet monthly in-person (with virtual options), operate democratically, and are each facilitated by an elected Coalition Chairperson. Coalition Chairpersons are supported and trained by MFC staff in community organizing, non-oppressive meeting facilitation, conflict resolution, and the MFC Organizing Framework (see below). To build solidarity, all coalitions unite on a quarterly basis.

THIS IS NOT ANOTHER MEET and GREET. Our coalitions not only build relationships, but build POWER, and direct that power to make real and lasting CHANGE!

All are welcome! For example: Want better food in the cafeteria, join our Food Service Coalition… Better wages and hours at your serving job, Restaurant and Fast Food Coalition. More local food at the grocery store OR MORE DIRELY a grocery store within walking distance of your house, Grocery and Retail Coalition. Get it? If it matters to you, it matters to others as well. Be heard and lead the change.
